The military uses a lot of acronyms and shortened terms. I sometimes talk -write- using them without thinking twice if my readers know what they mean. Here is a list of those commonly used in the military life and in this blog.

AIT – Advanced Individual Training
Basic – Basic Training, Boot Camp,
BX– Base Exchange, The Wal-Mart or Target on an Air Force base, tax-free general retail for all military
MCX– Marine Core Exchange, The Wal-Mart or Target of a Marine base, tax-free general retail for all military
NEX– Navy Exchange, The Wal-Mart or Target of a Naval base, tax-free general retail for all military
PCS– Permanant Change of Station, when the Army tells us to move
PX– Post Exchange, The Wal-Mart or Target on an Army post, tax-free general retail for all military
TDY – Temporary Duty, a service member travel assignment away from his permanent duty station, typically short, from 2-60 days
